New Year, and The Order Comes!

Happy New Year, everyone that reads my blog. It's 2010, and my third year of crabbing. Remembering, a lot of things have changed in the past months. It will be July 11, again, and we'll complete another year together.
On the other side, my order from the Hermit Crab Addiction Store has arrived! Everything was in the box, and I got many samples. The crabs will have a buffet tonight.

Crabby Christmas Presents!

As you all know, it was Christmas yesterday. It was an awesome one, because I was with family. Yet, a kids favorite part is opening presents! This year I got two Hermit Crabs! Woot!
Their names are Hummingbird's Egg and Kiwi Egg(NOT Kiwi's Egg).
The names come from this candy I was eating that sort of looked like the eggs the hummingbirds lay on our windows in the summer time. The name 'Kiwi Egg' just stuck.

I also got a background, which makes the tank look much more better.

Happy Holidays,

My Crabs Enjoying Various Foods.

My crabs enjoying Pineapple, Coconut, Carrots & Cilantro, Strawberry, and Star Fruit.

R.I.P Bjorn, Henry, Io, and Callisto which are found in these photos.

Placed an Order!

I placed an order in The Hermit Crab Addiction Store a few days ago. I'm waiting on my order. I'm pretty sure my hermits will like the food I bought, since I've read nice reviews on the items. I ordered the following food items:
Organic Earthworm Castings
Bee Pollen
Algae Crisps
Can I have a Taste? food pack

Knowing my tank is a bit boring, I also ordered some decorations. I ordered:
Brown Corner Net
Baby Bio Vine

The owner lives in CA, so the items will probably be here after Christmas,
She has accounts in both the Hermit Crab Association and the Hermit Crab Addiction Forum. She is known as vckums on both, and I have sent her PMs on the Addiction Forum to know how to pay in Money Orders.
Hopefully everything comes out alright.

Marigold

Calendula aka pot marigold is a type of marigold that is very good for skin issues and has such a great amount of vitamins. My Guys love them dry and crunchy. I buy the dry food grade from mountain rose herbs.

-Suebee, member of the HCA

Yes, marigold does help with skin issues and does have a lot of vitamins. It also helps crabs with exoskeleton color. It is a fave. I got mine from my garden. Tho, I had to wait 8 weeks for the fertilizer in the soil to dissolve.

They do smell, but they are great for the crabs!

Sun Dried Gammarus Shrimp

This is an absolute favorite. Gammarus Shrimp ( Gammarus Setosus ) can be found in the waters off the coast of British Columbia, but have been observed in nearly all of the world's oceans. So you can virtually see all the crab species munching on one.

Tetra Freeze Dried Baby Gammarus are whole sun-dried shrimp, including the shell (the picture). They are a great source of Astaxanthin, witch helps enhance color.

This is a great vacation food too, since it does not mold. When I left for Mexico, all I did was pile it up in the food dish, the crabs will eat of it until you come back, which then you will resume regular feeding.

It is also know as:

It can be found in the fish section at Wal*Mart, and many pet stores such as PetSmart, Petland and Petco.

Try it! You'll crabs will love it.

Avocado!

Avocado is a favorite among hermit crabs. It is native to the Caribbean, Mexico, South America and Central America. PPs and Es live in and around those areas, so it's likely part of their diet in the wild.

The avocado is colloquially known as the Alligator Pear, reflecting its shape and the leather-like appearance of its skin. "Avocado" is derived from the Aztec word "ahuacatl".

Alligator Pears have Zeaxanthin which helps by enhancing color of the exoskeleton, it also aids in body functions.

So definitely, try it! Just avoid the actual plant, the skin and seed too. Only the meat is for crab consumption.
